Unplug...

Times indeed change.

I remember when I used to revel in being away from everyone, in discovering new places, in freedom from family, friends and the tiny claustrophobic place I call home. Every time I travelled, my sense of wonderment grew, I could not get enough and I hated going back to the place called home to face the familiar way of life as it has been for forever.

Yet now, thousands of miles away from everyone, with everything I used to think I valued and all I want in my noisy, dusty, bustling claustrophobic place I call home. I miss everyone so much and so worried that I may lose touch that I find myself more plugged and more in sync now than when I was physically there.

Loneliness surrounds me.

The new place has lost its thrill. It is not all that I hoped it will be. It is much harder than I ever imagined it to be. To start afresh in a new place where everyone has everything figured out. All friends are formed, clicks and I am the odd one out. I realise I have changed. It took all this loneliness biting at me from all angles to realise that I am not the same person I used to be, and that is neither a good nor a bad thing. I am different.

Challenging times ahead.

Finding the balance between wallowing in loneliness and going out to meet new people who are not interested and feeling like you have to convince them that they should have you in their life is proving to be quite a struggle. Making new friends just for the sake of it feels like such a waste of time when you know once this specific time is over, meeting them again is going to be hard. My heart is divided in enough places across the world to do it anymore. Yet we are social creatures. But in the meantime I am going to just be focused on me. Being my own friend, talking to the voices in my head, and try to unplug from my constant conversations from home.

Life moves on.

Girlfriend...

Thank you so much for remininding that there is more to me than just being a wife and keeping a house. I had forgotten the inner diva in me, so I want to thank you for helping me getting her out.

Finding the Good in: GOODBYE

Why do the people I really like always have to leave?? Why can't they all be in the same place. Someone always has to leave. Then I have to say goodbye, I hate saying goodbye. Goodbyes are hard but who said hellos were easy? So what I need are more hellos. They say goodbyes aren't forever and hellos never last, its the space in between when the future becomes the past...so babes I want to be your favourite hello and your hardest goodbye.

When I miss you too much (no doubt) I will re-read our old phone and e-mail conversations and smile like an idiot. See, its not always the goodbye that hurts the most, its the memories of you that I can't forget and the flashbacks that I will always have. Whereas you are leaving me behind, I am left in a place imprinted of our memories and time together. All the things we used to do. All the laughs we had. All the embarrassing things I did. What shall I do with the days and hours that are counted until I see you again? You know what I realised today? Goodbye makes me think about all that I took for granted. All the things I wished I said to you. All the promises I wish I kept. All the stuff we should have done. But, c'est la vie.

Enough about me. College is the best time of your life. I mean when are your parents ever going to pay several thousands dollars to move you in another town, and you can party every night? Exactly!!! Never thought of it that way huh??? So live your life, do you. Pursue your happiness. Don't live down to expectations, go out there and do something remarkable. If you should forget me for a while that's owkay, as long as I know that you are happy, then I am good. I know that in the midst of it all, you will always remember me.

So don't cry that you are going away. Smile because we met. Because I managed to intimately know the incredible person that you are. And you kept up with all my bullshit. So the silver lining is; smile because our paths crossed. Don't be so sad at the goodbye, a farewell is necessary before we can meet again. The reason it hurts soo much to be apart is because our hearts are connected. Yeah, we could never be sisters because God knew our mothers couldn't handle us together, so He made us friends.

I do feel like a woman of the world, now the earth seems so spacious. With so many loved ones scattered everywhere. We may not always be together, but you will always be in my heart. I love you.

***P.S: This is how I will feel in a while.  Right now, I wish you would stay with me and not leave. I am fighting back the tears at the very thought that I cannot randomly surprise you and annoy you. That I will not be able to see you everyday. That we will not do random hanging out. Right now, I have to take each day at a time. I have to keep it together, and that in time I will find a way to deal with the constant reminder of your absence in my life.

Marriage...

I recently received a request from a friend who is getting married very soon and asked me to share with her my experience since i was married very recently. Here is what I have to say:

1. Marriage day is one of the biggest day in anyone's life. Growing up, my mum always use to say that each person has three big days in our lives where the whole world stops for us. Those days are: the days you were born, the day you get married and the day you die. I think she is right.

2. Like any bride, I urge you to prepare, prepare and prepare - but when the day comes, go with the flow. Don't worry if everything is not going exactly as you planned, if it is going then it is meant to be that way.

3. Marriage and the wedding day are two very different things. We can plan and prepare to the T, for the wedding day - it can be perfect. But marriage, the journey, the process, the good, the bad and everything in between is something that you can only live to experience, and keep your wits about you while enjoy the ride.

4. Cry, its very important - do it with someone who matters, it is more healing than crying alone. Before, during, or after the wedding. The pent up emotions of anger, frustration, sadness, happyness - feel them. Don't keep them all in. Once you let all that energy out, fill every pore with positive energy, envigorate with laughter and dress yourself with a smile. Always. (You will be thankful you did especially wen the wedding videos and pictures come out. )

5. Honeymoon. Is an essential part of the wedding. Nothing will ever beat those jittering nerves and constant butterflies when you can finally tell the world that you are one. Take time out and enjoy that, when the whole word stops in wonder for you, bask in that glory and store those feelings away; so you can take them out during troubled times.

6. Family and friends. You will need them more than you can imagine.

7. Happyness. Its very important that the man you chose to live the rest of your life with makes you happy. You have to live with the consequences of that decision for a long time and every morning you wake up to that reminder.

8. Space. Marriage involves space. It is beautiful that you will always have a witness to your life, someone who will always be there. Yet that is also a test of marriage. That someone is always there. My theory is relationships involve three parts always: YOU, ME, US!! don't compromise any one part for the other, each is important to make the relationship healthy.

9. Life is a gift, enjoy it, live it, revel it, embrace the woman that you will become as a result of this journey. Marriage will lift you, break you, challenge you, embrace you, comfort you and so much more. Enjoy each moment, register each senstation and to me that is always the best way to live. In the moment.

10. Love. God. They complete your marriage. They keep you grounded. and they make life worth living - with a belief and hope that today is good, and tomorrow it will even be better. The more grateful you are; the better it becomes.

Out of my mind…

...a collage of my friends crazy facebook updates....
--------------------------------------------------------
Do not disturb me,
I’m disturbed enough already.
And please don’t talk to me,
When I’m talking to myself.

Yes, I am only young once;
but I can stay immature indefinitely.
I don’t get into fights;
I was raised right,
I talk about people behind their backs…
It’s called manners.

Honesty is the best policy,
but insanity is the best defense.
I don't suffer from insanity,
I enjoy every minute of it.
So don’t follow me,
I’m lost.

Nobody is perfect;
I am nobody.
I'm not crazy,
my reality is just different than yours.
Out of my mind…
Back in a jiffy.

Amazing Collage of Words

1. Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square hole. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
APPLE INC.

2. Life is never about the people who act true to our face. it is always about the people who remain true behind our back. ~Author Unknown

3. True friends are friends who are happy for you no matter what choices you make in life as long as they make you happy. ~Author Unknown

4. Procrastination is like masturbation.  At first it feels good, but in the end you're only screwing yourself. ~ Unknown

5. No matter how fast light travels it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.  ~Terry Pratchett

6. I wish I could have known earlier that you have all the time you'll need right up to the day you die.  ~William Wiley

7. To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.  ~e.e. cummings, 1955

8. Why try to be someone you're not?  Life is hard enough without adding impersonation to the skills required.  ~Robert Brault

9. Not all those who wander are lost.  ~J.R.R. Tolkien

10. You have enemies?  Good.  That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.  ~Winston Churchill

11. Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. ~ Abraham Lincoln

12. Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live! ~ Bob Marley

13. I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.  Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.  Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.  ~Theodore Geisel

14. You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.  ~Mark Twain

15. Some men know that a light touch of the tongue, running from a woman's toes to her ears, lingering in the softest way possible in various places in between, given often enough and sincerely enough, would add immeasurably to world peace.  ~Marianne Williamson, "A Woman's Worth"

16. Women cannot complain about men anymore until they start getting better taste in them.  ~Bill Maher

17. Women get the last word in every argument.  Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.  ~Author Unknown

18. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing to say to someone who means the world to you, especially when goodbye isn't what you want. ~Author Unknown

19. Was it possible? A round table could actually have a corner if you wanted it to? Just because people were living in this round world but constntly being pushed off its edges? ~ Tunumariya Yongolo

20. When you thought I wasn’t looking, You said a prayer And I believed there was a God that I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw tears come from your eyes And I learned that sometimes things hurt—
But that it’s alright to cry.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, You smiled, And it made me want to look that pretty too.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, You cared, And I wanted to be everything I could be.
When you thought I wasn’t looking— I looked . . .
And wanted to say thanks, For all those things you did, When you thought I wasn’t looking. ~ Nouriyah Suleiman

21. We always say life is too short only when we are hit with a tragedy i.e. when we loose someone close. But we forget to keep the ones alive closer because of different avenues in life.. sometimes as human beings we lack da patience to understand @ other for watever reasons... it is in our own power to keep @other together don't wait until its too late to show/tell/express how much we mean to one another.. grudges are waste of emotions.
PS: WE dnt need Death to remind us we only humans and without realizing it we need each other and whether we love it o not we mean smfn to @ other....!!! ~ Halima Wagao
